Hiking in Starved Rock Park
We went for group hiking in Starved Rock Park. It was humid and hot. The "plumber" was taking a vacation as well, forgetting to turn on the water fall at French Canyon. We had a nice time!

Our Paper Won Best Paper in ISFA
Our paper "A Mass-Air Stiffness Model for Coupled Dynamics of Near Field Acoustic Levitation Bearing" was presented at the International Symposium on Flexible Automation and awarded the best paper - theory. Congratulations to Yaoke Wang!

Our Group Attended MSEC/NAMRC
Prof. Guo, Ru Yang, Yunzhi Xu, Yaoke Wang, and Malachi Landis attended NAMRC/MSEC Conference at Purdue University, Indiana. Ru Yang and Yunzhi Xu presented posters "Deep Learning-based Digital Image Correlation for Displacement and Strain Measurement" and "Fabrication of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Ceramic Composites by Wet Electrospinning". Ru Yang gave a presentation on "Deep-learning Metrology for Intelligent Manufacturing" in the doctoral symposium session.

Kornel F. Ehmann Manufacturing Medal
Dr. Guo received the Kornel F. Ehmann Manufacturing Medal from ASME. The award recognizes the best original paper or papers submitted to ASME and clearly concerned with or related to micro- or nano-scale manufacturing processes or products. It is named after Prof. Kornel Ehmann, the PhD supervisor of Dr. Guo! It is indeed a special recognition.

Group Excursion in Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve
We went for a long excursion on Monday, July 13 in Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve obeying social distancing guidelines most of the times. Great up-close encounter with nature!

Ru Yang Passed Qualification Exam
Ms Ru Yang passed her PhD research qulification exam. Her presentation title was "Deep-learning Based Point-light Photometric Stereo for 3D Reconstruction of Metal Surface." Congratulations!

Yaoke Wang Became a PhD Student
Yaoke Wang became a PhD student in our group. He had been working as a master student since September 2018. His research interests includes structual coloration. Congratulations!

Prof. Guo Attends 2019 ASPE
Prof. Guo has attended the 2019 Annual Meeting of American Society for Precision Engineering in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, from Oct 29th to Nov 1st, 2019. Prof. Guo has presented the work on "Sculpturing of colored basso-relievo with elliptical vibration texturing".
